Ambicat™ MB60 and BorPEX™ ME2510 innovations offer unique benefits for silane PEX heating pipes
Ambicat™ MB60 catalyst system by Borealis has added a new dimension to the manufacture of silane PEX pipe for domestic hot and cold water pressure pipes. Using the new catalyst, in combination with Borealis’ new base material, BorPEX™ ME2510, silane crosslinking can be achieved at ambient temperature within a few days for typical plumbing and heating pipes. This represents significant cost and time savings compared with the regular high density (HD)-PEX using a traditional catalyst, where crosslinking cannot be achieved at room temperature in a practical time.

Borealis creates new zero-gap Daplen™ grades for BMW Series 1 bumpers and rocker panels
BMW Group, seeking a zero-gap thermoplastic for its BMW Series 1 bumpers and rocker panels, turned to Borealis to create a material for its needs. BMW wanted easily moulded parts that presented a paintable, Class A surface with an extremely small gap between car body and part. At the same time, the parts had to be strong enough to meet or exceed impact specifications. On top of all this, the material had to be recyclable to conform to end-of-life requirements. By formulating application-specific Daplen thermoplastic polyolefins (TPOs) to meet BMW’s requirements, Borealis provided the carmaker with a multi-faceted solution for its high-design, high-engineering component needs in time for the Series 1's expected launch later this year.

New Borealis biaxially oriented polypropylene reduces weight and improves transparency of plastic bottles
The new Borealis RF926MO polypropylene (PP) injection stretch blow moulding (ISBM) grade provides enhanced performance owing to its biaxial orientation. The new grade can reduce weight by more than 30% compared with extrusion blow-moulded high-density polyethylene (HDPE) grades. The new PP grade provides excellent transparency and gloss levels, can save up to 30 to 50% on energy costs in production, and RF926MO’s processing window is significantly broader than other PP materials.

Automakers adopt new scratch-resistant TPOs from Borealis for car interiors
With the introduction of Borealis thermoplastic olefin grades, (TPOs) EE137AE and EE137HP, Borealis has created an innovative, scratch-resistant injection-moulding compound specifically designed for automotive interiors and similar demanding applications. The scratch-resistant nature of the polypropylene (PP) compounds is the result of engineering as much performance as possible into the base resin while minimising fillers and additives. In addition, the remaining fillers and additives benefit from proprietary formulations to further enhance properties of the new grades.

NEW HIGH FLOW STANYL® GRADE FROM DSM HANDLES
DSM Engineering Plastics announces the availability of a new grade of high-flow Stanyl® polyamide 46 (PA46) designed for elements of aircraft jet engines. Stanyl 46HF4130 is a 30-percent glass-fibre-reinforced compound that was initially developed for use in the intake portion of the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine, engineered for noise reduction and minimum environmental impact. The engine uses 50 panels with highly complex geometry to minimize noise through a complex section of the engine duct, benefiting from Stanyl’s high strength and moldability.
