Eastern will build the MPSVs for Hornbeck Offshore Services of Covington, La.

The new release significantly extends the functionality of managed switches from the MACH, MICE, Rail and OCTOPUS families. Depending on the switch family, new features include special tools such as an integrated IEC61850 server for seamless integration with data networks for power generation and distribution. A PTP power profile according to IEEE C37.238 also allows these networks to be accurately synchronized. Thanks to support for Jumbo frames, which ensure optimum utilization of user data, high-resolution video applications are also possible. Furthermore, in addition to extensions for PROFINET and Ethernet/IP, the release for all four switch families offers additional mechanisms for detecting overload situations, as well as improved diagnostic, documentation and encryption mechanisms. Like the previous version, the new software platform 8.0 supports extensive management, diagnostic and filter functions, as well as various redundancy methods, security mechanisms and real-time applications. As a result, it is particularly suited to applications in the energy industry, the oil and gas sector, and the automotive industry.

Following the opening of Germany’s largest demonstration plant for manufacturing ethanol from agricultural residues in July 2012, the company now has new findings, which show that corn stover, the most valuable raw material in North America, and sugarcane bagasse, a cellulose-rich by-product of sugar and ethanol production in Latin America and Asia, can also be converted efficiently in the process. European wheat straw has primarily been used to date, and has delivered good results that have even exceeded the expectations of the process developers in some aspects.
