Distrupol shares its ‘green’ knowledge at PDM 2009
Even before the credit crunch, moulders and OEMs were actively looking for effective ways to reduce production costs and, equally importantly, to make a contribution to reduced energy usage and CO2 emissions. If anything, the global financial crisis has encouraged everyone to redouble their efforts to finding solutions to these issues and implement them with greater urgency.
Distrupol is using its participation at this year’s PDM show, 19 – 21 May, at the Telford International Centre, to explore with visitors what it is to be ‘green’, how it can contribute to lowering costs and benefit the environment, and how Distrupol can help customers to achieve it.
“The first step, and therefore the first point of discussion, is the question: “What is it to be green? Does it involve more than just the materials used?” says John Brenchley, Marketing and Product Manager Distrupol UK. “If it’s just that, then Distrupol has a complete portfolio of regenerated, biodegradable and bio-based materials to offer the customer.”
“But of course there is more to it. It’s about the optimal combination of a range of elements affecting product development. It’s about design for assembly and disassembly, the use of welding or snap-fits as opposed to rivets or glues. It’s about minimising wall-section thickness, optimising material usage and part weight reduction, to lower transportation costs and fuel consumption.”
“Being green is so much more than simply accessing a range of ECO-polymers, it’s about knowing what questions to ask and who to direct them to. At PDM we aim to demonstrate that Distrupol is very well qualified to provide the ‘green’ answers and solutions,” says Brenchley.
