Clariant’s new Genaminox® CHE for hard surfaces boosts green credentials, cost-efficiency and cleaning performance

October 15, 2009 - Specialty chemicals expert Clariant introduces Genaminox® CHE – its pioneering bio-based Amine Oxide (AO) for hard surface cleaning that enables manufacturers to cut active ingredient input to achieve lower cost, greener products with enhanced cleaning performance.

The high active AO is proven in industry-standard Gardner tests to consistently outperform alternative surfactants at a very low concentration. Due in principal to the fact that Genaminox CHE has a Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC) of less than half that of lauryldimethyl A.O, up to 66% less active ingredient is required to deliver significant performance improvements for hard surface cleaner (HSC) formulations. Tests using existing market products show that Genaminox CHE delivers 50% better soil removal in an anti-bacterial formulation and a 44% improvement in a green all-purpose cleaner formulation.

By using less active ingredient, manufacturers can reduce material purchasing, storage and transportation costs, while being confident of achieving perceivable performance improvements and the differentiation they need for their product.

This “more for less” principle applies also to end-users. The higher performance degreasing effectiveness and soil removal offered by Genaminox CHE allows the end-user to use less active ingredient to get an improved result.

Genaminox CHE is made from a plant-based renewable hydrophobe, with 60% of the chemicals used originating from bio sources. Because Genaminox CHE-based HSC fluids contain less active content and a higher water concentration, they have a lower ecotox profile with reduced environmental impact.

Genaminox CHE has an excellent foam profile, making it well suited to spray and sit HSC cleaning formulations. It is peroxide stable.

SEPAWA 2009 marks the first-time availability of Genaminox CHE to HSC manufacturers in Europe.

Cesar Saez, Ind. & Home Care Business Manager for EMEA at Clariant comments: “At Clariant, we are focusing our new product development on giving the industrial and home care markets solutions that will enhance cleaning efficacy and deliver the cost saving and environmental benefits required by this differentiation-focused sector. Genaminox CHE offers real tools to achieve these goals, and we are looking forward to introducing this and other performance-enhancing products to SEPAWA visitors.”

Genaminox CHE’s combination of ecological and economical benefits qualifies it for Clariant’s new EcoTain label. The label stands for:

Eco-friendly: biodegradable products and processes that follow the recycling concept to reduce waste

Economically attractive: efficient processes, less waste and lower production costs

Sustainable: less raw material, lower energy consumption

The EcoTain concept highlights Clariant’s on-going philosophy of managing its product portfolio and services to customers’ needs and the resulting necessity to develop products that are based on a sustainable raw material basis.
