DSM Dyneema is the inventor and manufacturer of Ultra High Molecular Weight PolyEthylene (UHMWPE) fiber branded as Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber™. Dyneema® offers maximum strength combined with minimum weight. It is up to 15 times stronger than quality steel and up to 40% stronger than aramid fibers, both on weight for weight basis. Dyneema® fiber floats on water and is extremely durable and resistant to moisture, UV light and chemicals. The applications are therefore more or less unlimited. Dyneema® is an important component in ropes, cables and nets in the fishing, shipping and offshore industries. Dyneema® is also used in safety gloves for the metalworking industry and in fine yarns for applications in the medical sector. In addition, Dyneema® is also used in bullet resistant armor and clothing for police and military personnel. Furthermore the new generation Dyneema® Fabrics offer next level innovations in denim, apparel, footwear, sports equipment and lightweight outdoor products and accessories.

UHMWPE products from DSM Dyneema are produced in Heerlen (The Netherlands), Greenville, North Carolina (U.S.A.) and Mesa, Arizona (U.S.A). DSM Dyneema successfully defends key patent against competitor challenge

The Netherlands, 27 September 2016 - DSM Dyneema, inventor and manufacturer of Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber™, has again successfully defended a key patent from challenge before the European Patent Office (EPO) Opposition division. The company Teijin Aramid had challenged the EPO’s previous grant of DSM Dyneema’s European patent (EP1575758B), which covers pressed products based on specific improved Uni Directional (UD) systems, typically designed and used in high end armor applications such as helmets, inserts, and vehicle armor. DSM’s technology aims at pressed products with improved performance at higher temperatures, while still maintaining good performance at ambient temperature.

With near-zero signal loss, Dyneema® Crystal Technology helps Elvira® detect drones and classify them, distinguishing them from birds or other flying objects, at longer distances than traditional radar systems. In fact, this breakthrough radar technology can detect larger fixed-wing drones at a range of nine kilometers and smaller multi-rotor drones at up to three kilometers. In addition to the material’s electromagnetic transparency, ROBIN Radar chose Dyneema® Crystal Technology for its superior protection of sensitive equipment in harsh outdoor environments and its extreme light weight for easy transport.
